To date, more than 150 artists across New York City have been photographed, forming a collective portrait of the city’s diverse creative community. The project continues to grow as new artists are invited to participate, expanding this evolving visual archive of the people who contribute to New York’s cultural life.
The long-term vision for Faces Behind the Art is to present these portraits as large-scale public installations in high-traffic spaces throughout the city, allowing New Yorkers to encounter the faces of the artists who shape its cultural identity. The project will also be presented in book form, bringing together participating artists as a visual record of the city’s creative community.
